A Girl who wasn't there

Amidst pouting faces looking to impress,
And dodging the instinct of glancing flaunty legs,
I spotted across a four lane drive
a moment of quiet beauty under shade of an oak.
She stood there still for a minute or two
That’s when I thought I should wait too.
Cars horned past her, smoke blew in the face.
Rascal kids of the street even circled her at pace.
But she won’t stir a lip or change her mood,
she always looked the same, waiting in a calm grace.
I wondered, what a pure heart
must this girl have
to wait for someone like that?
Hours passed and black filled the sky,
and we two remained only souls on the street.
When for fifteen minutes no one passed by,
out of curiosity, I moved to approach her
but soon as I did,
I noticed that she moved too, towards me,
forsaking her grace, and the stillness of her air,
And as fast as I could, I fled from there.
Was it because she was interested in me
that made me loose interest?
Or that she had lost her air?
I won’t say that, for when I turned around to move
I saw that the street had been empty all through.
